More often than not, elderly patients suffer from physical ailments and mental disorders. Singapore has an aging population, which means our silver generation will increase in the coming years. GPs, as solo practitioners, are often the first in contact with persons who show acute illnesses and signs of mental degeneration. To continue to care for the community, GPs will need support and assistance, but where should they look?
A good place to start is at the inaugural Singapore Mental Health Conference (SHMC) 2014, 17 to 18 October at Singapore Expo. This year, organizers - AIC, HPB, IMH and NCSS have planned a symposium specially for Primary Care doctors titled “Levelling the clients’ recovery journey with the support of Primary Care” on 18th October.
Doctors from hospitals and Primary Care will share their experiences in working together to provide appropriate care for clients from diagnosis to treatment. This is a great opportunity to find out how the Mental Health community network functions. Join us at the symposium to gain a clearer understanding of the role of the Psychiatrist, GPs and VWOs in the provision of care in the network, to enable clients to stay in the community.
