Primary Care Landscape

There are about 1,600 GP clinics which meet about 80% of the total primary care demand. These range from solo practices to medium and large corporate groups. In recent years, MOH has been working more closely with GPs to ensure that Singaporeans have access to affordable and quality healthcare in the community. This is aligned with the key principles of Family Medicine and the role of the Family Physician as the life-long health partner of patients, for preventive, acute and chronic care.

The primary care sector comprises of:
  • General Pracitioners (GPs) as the life-long health partner of patients, for both acute and chronic conditions including preventive health;
  • Family Medicine Clinics (FMCs) bringing together doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and other related services in an integrated service delivery model to enable resource sharing, economies of scale and team-based care;
  • Primary Care Networks (PCN) to enable patients to enjoy better chronic care and support GPs in providing holistic and team-based chronic care for patients in the community. Click here for more information on PCNs;
  • Polyclinics are located island-wide, and provide subsidised primary care, which includes primary medical treatment, preventive healthcare and health education.

Shaping the future of primary care together
This is an important journey for the healthcare community and we hope that GPs will play an active role in shaping these changes.
