The One Health Antimicrobial Resistance Workgroup, comprising of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA), National Environment Agency (NEA) and PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, has developed a National Strategic Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The Plan references recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO) and takes a whole-of-government approach in providing a framework to strengthen and enhance activities to combat AMR in the longer term.

The National Strategic Action Plan on AMR was released on 1 Nov 2017. You may refer to the press release here.

The core strategies of the Plan to reduce the emergence and prevent the spread of AMR are:

(i) Education (ii) Surveillance and Risk Assessment (iii) Research (iv) Prevention and Control of Infection and (v) Optimisation of Antimicrobial Use

For the strategy of Education, activities to generate awareness of AMR among the public will be a key initiative. In conjunction with World Antibiotic Awareness Week on 13-19 Nov 2017, the Health Promotion Board (HPB) has disseminated patient information leaflets and posters to primary care providers. Clinics are encouraged to display these materials at their waiting areas. The materials provide an introduction to AMR, its effects and what the individual can do to prevent it.
